Through the Lens of Dr. King

A Look at the Katt Williams Interview

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically... intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.”

― Dr. King

Through the Lens of Dr. King - A Look at the Katt Williams Interview

Tomorrow (Jan. 15) we will celebrate the life and legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King’s legacy continues to inspire us to work for equality and justice.

His life and work shows us the impact one person can have.

Get this…

I was using the Google trends tool to find noteworthy topics
for my YouTube channel.

This one “trending topic” grabbed my attention.

It was from a recent interview that "broke the internet".

Yes, it went viral immediately!

On Jan 3, 2024, Shannon Sharpe (NFL Hall of Famer) interviewed comedian Katt Williams.

Shannon has had many notable guests on his booming podcast, "Club Shay Shay".

But ― this interview received the most views at 45 million (and counting).

The podcast was almost 3 hours long ― Katt had a lot to say!

There were moments that left Shannon speechless.

And there were parts that intrigued me.

So, what does Katt Williams have to do with Dr. King?

I'm glad you asked...

Let’s focus on some key principles, not the person.

Truth & Justice ― Katt Williams was candid about standing for truth. Matter of fact, "truth" was mentioned over 20 times throughout the interview. He emancipated himself from his parents at age 13. Then he moved to Florida and supported himself as a street vendor.

Katt passed up his Hollywood Star and paid $75,000 for (overlooked) actress Melba Moore to get it. Katt didn't cave to the Hollywood system. Many would say he was "blackballed" because of his unwavering beliefs.

Dr. King dedicated his life to fighting for truth and equality for all mankind. Whether it was organizing peaceful protests, marches, galvanizing speeches ― he never wavered.

Education ― Katt mentioned that he could read several languages by age 3. When he stated, that he read 3,000 books in a year, a few eyebrows raised, including mine. Katt spoke out about the lack of emphasis on reading in education today and kids are falling behind.

According to NPR, "U.S. reading and math scores drop to lowest level in decades. The declines in reading were more pronounced for lower performing students, but dropped across all percentiles." NPR 6-21-2023

Dr. King believed ― "Education helps to lift an individual from the bondage of legends and half truths to the unfettered realm of objective analysis".

As a member of his high school debate team, King developed his powerful public speaking skills, and extensive vocabulary. King left high school at the age of 15 to enter Morehouse College. He read Plato, Aristotle, Luther, Locke, Kant, and Rousseau among others. Not to mention he was a minister.

Giving Back ― Katt Williams is secretly known for gifting upcoming comedians thousands of dollars to help them. Following the interview, several individuals confirmed that Katt helped them financially.

Katt Williams mentioned how he adopted 7 kids. He said, "raising kids...you're trying to give them a better manual and and outline on how life works vs. what your parents gave you".

Dr. King is often remembered by his epic speeches. He gave us the "I Have A Dream Speech". He called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States. Dr. King ultimately gave his life for the dream.

Now the crucial part…

The gunman tried to kill “the dream”. But failed.
