From Bystander to Changemaker: Embracing the Power Within
Throughout February, I've studied some remarkable historical figures.
Each day, I would research a significant person in Black History based on the current date.
After studying over 25 people, I noticed this significant trait.
They pursued causes that were greater than themselves.
I'll explain.
Most people that create a lasting legacy, are not intending to do such.
It’s something within them to become their best and serve others.
One of my favorite phrases is, "be the best "you" that you can be.
For example, Dr. King "Had a dream", Rosa Parks "refused to give up her seat",
and Nelson Mandela "survived 27 years in prison (rejecting aparthied)".
Do you think they knew how the lasting impact that their initial actions would have on the world?
True story…
When I was working in corporate, we would attend global conferences.
This one time, Al Sharpton was on to speak.
What he said that day, I will never forget.
He said, "As a preacher, that hardest thing to do is deliver a eulogy of an insignificant person".
You should have seen the audience’s reactions around the room.
He was right!
When it comes to legacy, Patti Davis said it best ― "What you leave as a legacy is not what is etched in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."
My question for you today is this:
What are you going to pursue and stand for that is greater than "you"?
